Switch off school streets
Our new Switch off school streets campaign, is all about putting children and families first. It will help to reduce air pollution, and make it cleaner and healthier for everyone to walk, cycle or scoot to and from school.
Leaving the car engine running when stationary, often referred to as ‘idling’ is a common occurrence around schools and a major cause of high levels of air pollution.
Our switch off school streets toolkit tells you everything you need to know about air pollution and includes a range of fun and engaging resources such as, clean air bingo, persuasive letter writing and idling surveys that are ready to use in your classrooms!
What you can do to support this messaging:
- turn off your vehicle engine when you are stationary
- leaving the car at home altogether and use sustainable modes of transport such as walking, wheeling, cycling, scooting, or public transport
- sharing your fantastic work on social media with the hashtag #SwitchOffSchoolStreets
It’s that simple, and these small actions can help to change the air we breathe for the better!
