The Clean Air Zone vehicle scrappage scheme
Who can apply?
To be eligible for this scheme, your vehicle must be non-compliant with Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone. This means you currently pay the daily fee to enter the zone. You can check if your vehicle is eligible by using the GOV.UK Vehicle Checker.
When you apply, you must:
- submit a separate application for each vehicle
- provide evidence to prove your identity
- provide evidence to prove you own the vehicle
Residents
If you live within the Clean Air Zone and you received one or more of the eligible benefits within the last 12 months, you can apply to the scheme.
You must provide evidence of:
- living in the zone
- the benefits you received
Workers
You are eligible to apply if you live outside of the Clean Air Zone boundary but travel into the zone for employment purposes and:
- earn less than £32,000 a year
- work a minimum of 18 hours per week
You must provide evidence of:
- working in the zone (see example letter)
- all income sources
You may also be required to attend an in‑person appointment to verify your documents.
